New Oleville

Hi everyone,

We're going to be completely redesigning the SGA website, Oleville.com. In the meantime, we'll be using this blog as a replacement. Every week we'll update a list of events and important dates, etc., that you would have found on the old Oleville.com.

Unfortunately, there will be no poll questions anymore.

Love,
Your SGA Team

Changes to note

Some of these you probably noticed on your own, but I'd just like to draw your attention to some changes on Oleville.com

The most exciting news is the addition of "Overheard at Olaf" to the Oleville home page. Regularly, I will be changing the quote to something that has been overheard on the St. Olaf campus. Please, please, please, if you overhear something that you think is weird, interesting, or funny, email me at sgawebmaster@stolaf.edu

I've also added a blog section dedicated to blogs written by the administration. This is an effort to eliminate the great divide between the St. Olaf administration and students. So, next time you hear a rumor, don't start spreading it yourself--get the facts straight and check out what the Oleville administrative blogs have to say.

Finally, more changes will becoming in the weeks ahead, never hesitate to let me know if there is something you want to see added to Oleville, or a blog you would like to be written. This is a website for the students.

Good luck finishing out the semester,
Webmaster Nate

First years... we need your help!

FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS: Is St. Olaf helping you develop your research savvy? Your professors want to know! Please take 15 minutes to complete the on-line Research Practices Survey, available through a message from Dr. Jo Beld in your email inbox until May 1. Most of you took a similar survey last fall, to help St. Olaf faculty and librarians understand your experiences with research in high school. Now they want to know about your research experiences during your first year of college. Many faculty are eager to see the results of this survey – don’t be surprised if you get reminders from your advisor and an instructor or two! Your 15 minutes will help your professors give you the best possible help in becoming an “information-literate” student.

You should do the survey this spring even if you didn't do it the first time. To access the survey, just click on the personalized link in the Research Practices Survey email message you received from Dr. Jo Beld. If you accidentally deleted that message, you'll get a couple of reminders that will also contain the link. If you have any questions, you can contact Dr. Beld at beld@stolaf.edu or x3910.

Looking Ahead

Tuesday April 17:
PAC Speaker, 7pm Pause
Michelle Malkin

Michelle is an American columnist, blogger, author and political
commentator. In her speech entitled Invasion: How America Still Welcomes Terrorists, Criminals and Other Foreign Menaces to Our Shores, Ms. Malkin presents a shocking expose of how America's lax immigration system led to the September 11 terrorist attacks. Malkin shows how every component of our immigration system has failed: from kowtowing consular offices, to
unguarded borders and ports of entry, to toothless detention and
deportation policies.
