New Oleville

Hi everyone,

We're going to be completely redesigning the SGA website, Oleville.com. In the meantime, we'll be using this blog as a replacement. Every week we'll update a list of events and important dates, etc., that you would have found on the old Oleville.com.

Unfortunately, there will be no poll questions anymore.

Love,
Your SGA Team

Homecoming Weekend: events you should know about

On Saturday September 29th, from 8:30am-11:30am there will be a Student Alumni and Parent Volunteer Project on the St. Olaf Natural Lands to remove Buckthorn (see pictures). The St. Olaf artist in residence will use the removed for Buckthorn for good (and not evil) by creating an art display that will be in Dittman that will educate about the negative effects of Buckthorn on the land and surrounding trees. Want to learn more? (of course you do!) check out the website devoted to this unique project: click here
But wait there's more (there has to be more, it's Homecoming after all)
This Saturday The Limestones will be performing with Face, a nationally recognized all-vocal rock band. Face was started by Ben Lunstad (class of '92) six years ago. Since then, Face has been awarded the National Audience Favorite Award at the Harmony Sweepstakes National Finals in San Francisco.
Both of these great events are brought to you by the Student Alumni Association.

Sha sha shop for your Fall Concert tickets online -- and save!

Let's face it, we're all fans of Ben Kweller and probably Mason Jennings too. Having decided to attend Fall Concert-which happens Saturday, 6 October at 7:00 p.m. in Skoglund Center Auditorium-your next step is to order tickets online through stolaftickets.com.
By ordering tickets online, you pay only $10 - that's 30% off the student door price of $15. Each student can order up to four tickets at the student price. The non-student price is $20 online and $25 at the door.

New this year! Your student idea can now get you not one ticket at student price, not two tickets, but four tickets at student price. So call your friends and get 'em their tickets

Announcements

Two things have been kept in the dark.

There have been speculations:
Is Michael Jordan coming for fall concert?
I heard it was O-town and Brian McKnight

Or how about the Homecoming theme...
I heard it was Oles under the Sea
No, I heard it was Holy Oles

Needless to say, there's been a lot Overheard at Olaf this week.

Let's put the rumors to rest.

Updates updates!

The blog rings are beginning to buzz at St. Olaf.

Check out new blog posts from SGA president Tyler Hauger to find out what's to come from SGA.

And check out President Anderson's newest post where he explains all the great efforts St. Olaf undertakes to make our campus more sustainable.

Blogs a plenty here at Oleville!

Vote today: do it because it feels good

General education requirements. Off-campus living. Diversity. You talk about these and other issues all the time. Now is your chance to do something about it.

Today, SGA is holding elections for faculty committees and hall senators. These students represent you on committees that make decisions about curriculum, student life, faculty hiring, and lots of other things. And, of course, they escalate your concerns to the administration when you need help.

Come to the polling place at the foot of the Caf stairs in Buntrock commons from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. today for voting and candy. Or, click the link below to be directed to the online ballot. Either way, you're doing your part to keep campus democracy alive.

Good Music Tonight

Normal when someone says the words "student band" people cringe and think of poorly written lyrics, 3 chord repetition and poor vocal harmonization.

But this is St. Olaf, we're a music school, remember?

So when I say that Masses with Masses and The Plagiarists are playing tonight in the Pause you should get really excited. While both are comprised of St. Olaf students, they are not "student bands" in the sense that you're used to. These are legitimate, talented, musicians.

Come and enjoy their music tonight in the pause at 9pm.

Mission IMPROVable Tonight!

Mission IMPROVable (www.missionimprovable.com), an improv comedy act will be performing tonight in the Pause. The show starts at 10pm.

Here's how it works:
"A team of "Agents" is deployed to your event with an array of comedy
improv games (missions) in the style of "Whose Line is It Anyway?"

Every Mission IMPROVable show revolves around the audience's suggestions as
inspiration for the funny, leaving the audience feeling so good, it should
be illegal. Don't worry it is legal, but it shouldn't be."

Come check it out!

Lion's Pause Mane Stage

Free with Ole or Carl ID

See you there!

Week One and Beyond

Well, move in day went well. Ole the lion made some stops and photo-ops, President Anderson (affectionately known as PDA) directed new students and handed out water, and first years got their first taste of St. Olaf life.

And Week One marches on. Things have been great, the freshman class appears eager and ready for whatever St. Olaf might throw their way (I'm specifically talking about Playfair). And while they haven't been fully embracing all that St. Olaf offers (This time I'm talking about the week one photo contest, click the "Week One Fun" button above for more information), it's been a great few days and all is well on The Hill.

But today, everything changes...

Because today the campus swells from around 1,000 students to about 3,000 students. A big welcome goes out to all upperclassmen returning to campus today.

The final days of summer are dwindling away, classes start Wednesday morning, so enjoy the next couple of days and rest up for the beginning of first semester.
