New Oleville

Hi everyone,

We're going to be completely redesigning the SGA website, Oleville.com. In the meantime, we'll be using this blog as a replacement. Every week we'll update a list of events and important dates, etc., that you would have found on the old Oleville.com.

Unfortunately, there will be no poll questions anymore.

Love,
Your SGA Team

Didn't get your Christmas Fest tickets in time?

Perhaps you've heard--St. Olaf holds this big event every year called Christmas Fest. It's a time when all the choirs on campus get together and sing Christmas hymns. Lots of parents and alumni come to St. Olaf to hear the world-renowned performance.

Since Christmas fest is a pretty big deal, and since a lot of people can't travel all the way to St. Olaf to see it, the entire performance is being simulcast in Theaters across the country.

So where do you fit in? Well, if you didn't get your tickets you don't have to go running up to Lakeville to catch it in the theater. This Sunday at 3pm a free simulcast of Christmas Fest will be shown on the Pause Mane Stage. Popcorn will be provided!

So, catch some Christmas Cheer.

The Regents are coming to town

On Friday, November 30th, the Board of Regents will be on campus. If you see a Regent walking around in their nice clothes wearing a nametag, be sure to say hello. Also, the Board Of Regents Student Committee will be meeting with the Board to discuss the College Themes and their selection, implementation, and institutionalization. A special area of focus in the cost of studying abroad and uses for the Old Science center once the new building is completed.

The BORSC members will be wearing their nametags on Friday as well, so feel free to approach your student representatives if you have thoughts about the aforementioned issues

The Final Push

You probably aren't going to believe this. But first semester is almost over. Just 3 more weeks until finals begin.

Thank goodness for the cheer of the holiday season to help us out and push us through. Let's make Oleville nice and festive. Send me pictures from your Thanksgiving, or from your holiday decorating. The more pictures I get, the more often I'll change the homepage picture (to your right).

I also would love to get more quotes- what have you Overheard at Olaf lately? Hear something funny from that Norwegian sweater clad couple visiting for Christmas fest? Let me know

You know where to send them--

The Student Government Association has allocated $6,500 (that's about 13,000 candy bars!) to send students to conferences around the country. If you are interested in attending a conference of any kind applications can be picked up in the Office of Student Activities, or just click here.

The Ultimate Grill Fest

The St. Olaf grilling club is holding the biggest St. Olaf grill event of the year! It all starts tonight (Saturday the 10th) at 5pm on the Ytterboe lawn.

Taylor Baggot '08 and Matt Johnson '06 will be providing the music for the event.

But wait, there's more! This grill fest will mark the first use of the new Ytterboe lawn grill. In order to make sure we use this grill right, Pastor Benson will be in attendance to bless the grill and we'll even have a red ribbon to cut.

The food, as always will be delicious, and it's only $4. So bring an appetite and some friends to the Ultimate Grilling Experience!

Welcome to your weekend!

Congratulations St. Olaf-- another week in the books.

So, now that you've got a few days off what are you going to do?
Let me offer some suggestions

  • On Saturday the Student Activities Committee (a branch of SGA) will be showing the Bourne Ultimatum in Viking Theater. There's two showings: one at 7pm and another at 10pm. You can also catch it on Sunday at 3pm.
  • The Father and Daughter banquets are being held this weekend: Saturday at 6pm and Sunday at Noon
  • The Diversity Celebrations Committee (another branch of SGA) will be holding Diwali- a celebration of the hope of mankind. This unique event will be on Saturday from 6pm to 9pm.
  • There's also a benefit concert Tonight in the Pause. It's part of the Microfinanace for Macroimpact week and it will feature St. Olaf Students!
  • If you're still bored student Brett DeFries has added a new Intramural Diary and Greta Fure has some more reflections about the current happenings on Grey's Anatomy. You can find both of those in the "Student Blogs" section
It looks like we have a great weekend ahead of us St. Olaf-- live it up.

A time to change...

Oleville has been with us for almost 10 months now, and things have been going well. However, things could be better. It is our hope here at SGA that Oleville can become a staple of the St. Olaf culture. We want all events to be advertised here; we want all prospective students looking here; we want all current students setting Oleville as their homepage. Because if all this happens then there would never be any confusion about where to look for information--we'd always know what's going on.

So, we're going to be working on revamping Oleville in the coming weeks. But we need your suggestions, what do you want to see added to Oleville? What could make this a better resource for you, the students? Let us know: sgawebmaster@stolaf.edu
