New Oleville

Hi everyone,

We're going to be completely redesigning the SGA website, Oleville.com. In the meantime, we'll be using this blog as a replacement. Every week we'll update a list of events and important dates, etc., that you would have found on the old Oleville.com.

Unfortunately, there will be no poll questions anymore.

Love,
Your SGA Team

Peace and War in the Heartland

If you are 20 Years old, the US has been in Iraq for more than a quarter of your life.

If you're registered to vote in Minnesota, you are registered for the draft.

Want to do something about it?

Peace and War in the Heartland is a series of events coming to campus this Thursday through Saturday during which students can explore broad issues of war, peace, and nonviolence, while looking specifically at the war in Iraq.

Because most Oles don't have to seriously consider joining the military as a way to help pay for school, the war can seem distant and inapplicable to our lives. The fact is that the war is very real to the people who are fighting it and will affect the US and the global community for years to come. Peace and War in the Heartland strives to ask us what we, personally, would do if we were forced to go to the war. Asking this question to students will implicitly raise the question "why don't I have to think about this?" and the issue of class privilege.

Come learn from veterans, peace activists, a former federal criminal, and an interfaith religious leader.

Music Entertainment Committee

Do you like Music? Well then this vote was for you!

In Senate on Tuesday there was a vote that passed. Because it passed there has been a new branch of Student Government created.

And right now, you're yawning because that sounds like the most boring news ever.

But wait- here's what happened. Senate voted and passed this proposal. The new committee is called the "Music Entertainment Committee". This committee will be solely responsible for bringing concerts and artists to campus. This is SGA trying to make sure that all the money in the budget for bringing music to campus is used wisely.

You're not yawning anymore, are you?

Are you a leader

Attention all St. Olaf Leaders! Applications are out for the 2007-2008
LEADERSHIP AWARD. More information and forms available in the Student
Activities Office, applications are due 4PM February 29, 2008.

Bag Lunch Survey

Take a second from your day and let your opinion be known. Fill out this survey about the bag lunch line so that campus can be a better place.

You can get to the survey by clicking here

Poetry Contest Winner

Congratulations to Brandon Button '08 for winning the first annual Oleville.com poetry contest. Thanks to all who entered and be sure to be on the lookout for future contests on Oleville.com

For now have a great weekend and enjoy the poetry:

Oleville.com,

Every time I use the internet,
My heart is filled with glee.
There you are, my love
Staring right back into me.
What's the weather like today? I ask
It's you that always knows.
You tell me everything that's happening
And settle all my woes.

This poem is for you,
My oleville.com
For all the love you give to me,
When I turn my computer on.

And we're back

Welcome back to all of those who've been out about, around the globe. Adam Ludvigson has been filling in for me as webmaster while I was off in Latin America (see picture at right for an idea of what my month entailed... that's a pineapple friends). I hope he treated you well. But now that Oleville is back in my hands and I've got big plans for semester 2. Stay tuned for more changes to the ville of Ole and feel free to shoot me any ideas you've got for the site.

As for now: We've added a new blog under the Student Blog section. It's a great sports blog written by Matt Tiano- check it out!
