New Oleville

Hi everyone,

We're going to be completely redesigning the SGA website, Oleville.com. In the meantime, we'll be using this blog as a replacement. Every week we'll update a list of events and important dates, etc., that you would have found on the old Oleville.com.

Unfortunately, there will be no poll questions anymore.

Love,
Your SGA Team

Ole Night Out! Sign-up Today

The Student Alumni Association (SAA) invites you to take part in Ole Night Out on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at 6:00 p.m.

Tired of the "Home Line" and craving something home-cooked? Are you sick of the crowded cafeteria or desire the warmth of home? On November 11th, alumni from Northfield, the southern suburbs, and south Minneapolis/St. Paul will host students in their homes for dinner. Alumni are always curious about current student life and Student Alumni Association knows students are curious about life at Olaf in the past.

All students have the opportunity to meet fabulous alumni and create connections for life during Ole Night Out. You could dine with a St. Olaf faculty or staff member (there are nearly 100 faculty/staff members who are Ole alumni), a Board of Regents or Alumni Board member, a recent grad living in a studio in Uptown, a well-known chef from downtown Minneapolis, or even a high-ranking executive of a large Twin Cities business.

Sign up in groups of 3-5 friends. Registration forms are available in the Student Activities Office and are also attached to this email. The registration form is due in the Student Activities Office by Monday, October 29th. You will receive your alumni host's name and address by Tuesday, November 6th.

Alumni families will expect you for dinner at 6:00 p.m. For those traveling to Minneapolis, you will need to leave by 5:00 p.m. and by 5:45 p.m. for those eating in Northfield. Please plan accordingly. Transportation to and from the event is your responsibility; however, contact Katie Hellen (hellen@stolaf.edu) to make special arrangements if necessary.
Treat yourself to a great opportunity to network, make connections, and enjoy a home-cooked dinner that is NOT served on a tray!

Your Fall Break Assignment

Dear St. Olaf Students,
I know that its fall break and that you don't want more work to do. But trust me, this is fun stuff. Oleville can only thrive if the students of St. Olaf College participate.

So on fall break, you need to look, listen, and document! Send me your hilarious Overheard at Olaf quotes. Send me your awesome fall break pictures and videos. Send me suggestions for what would make Oleville better.

Do you need some incentive? How about this... a $50 gift card to the Book store for the best fall break picture. Maybe it's funny, maybe it's pretty, maybe it's artistic. I just want your pictures.

So, in summary:
Send your photos and Overheard at Olaf quotes to sgawebmaster@stolaf.edu

The best photo I receive will win a $50 book store gift card.

Photo judging will be held next Friday October 19th.

Have a great fall break!

Oleville News and Notes

The village of Ole (that is, Oleville) just keeps growing.

We've added a new "Take a break blog", St. Olaf senior John Sopiwnik will be writing his stories of outdoor adventures in "The Outdoor Life". Meanwhile, in the Informational section, Intercampus Liaison Brandon Zumwalt, will keep you up to date on what's happening over at Carleton in his Intercampus blog.

Also, we've got some new thoughts on what's happening on Grey's Anatomy in the Grey's Days blog. And be on the lookout for new blogs from Alchemy major John Manke, and perhaps a new diary entire from Intramural Diary keeper The Postmaster General.

Yep, everything is looking up at Oleville. But, what would you like to see? We want your suggestions, email sgawebmaster@stolaf.edu with your suggestions. Got pictures? send those too and we'll put them in our galleries. Overheard something funny? send that for the Overheard at Olaf. This is your village, make it what you want it to be.

There's always a seat at the boardroom table

Here's a chance to sit down for your rights: students are always welcome at weekly Student Senate meetings. It's your opportunity to check up on our activities and learn about what we do.

If you'd like to address the senate, please e-mail your hall senator or Ishanaa Rambachan, Senate chair, by Monday evening before the meeting. Unfortunately, the bylaws only allow elected senators to speak unless previous arrangements are made.

From time to time, members are unable to attend a weekly meeting. By volunteering as a proxy, you can fill in for them and have all the rights of an elected senator during the meeting. Many elected senators—this writer included-started their senate career as a proxy. E-mail Ishanaa Rambachan for information.
